AIT Consulting (AITC) released its Inaugural issue of the Technology magazine which draws upon the undertakings of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and in particular those of AITC, the Asian Center for Engineering Computation and Software (ACECOMS), and the Habitech Center. Technology builds upon the foundation laid by its pre-cursor Civil Computing, a magazine published for over 15 years by ACECOMS, focusing on the engineering, technology, and the computing aspects of civil and structural engineering.

The new issue now has a broader mandate and covers various aspects of engineering, technology, environment, development, and management, with an emphasis on the regional context. The issue’s cover story, expounds about the magazine’s transition to “Technology” and transformation of Civil Computing, and gives readers a brief history of ACECOMS since its establishment in 1995.

The first issue of the magazine features topics on GIS-based Facility Information Management Systems (FIMS), developing interactive, computer-based learning tools for Civil Engineering students, the integration of environmental sustainability and disaster resilience in building codes and insights on how the Intellectual Property (IP) system could be effectively used as one of the tools to seed and nurture creativity and innovation in students by providing a platform for equitable sharing of knowledge.

The publication is a forum for professionals and researchers to share and disseminate their contributions to the technological development of the Asian region. There is an open invitation for contributions for the next issue on “Green Technology” scheduled for release in July 2013.
