Performance-based Seismic Design

AIT Solutions has conducted structural performance-based design of over 120 tall buildings located in high seismic zone. For our partners & clients in these projects, AIT Solutions conducts highly detailed earthquake simulations to check and improve the structural performance as well as cost-effectiveness.

The scope that AIT Solutions carries out to evaluate the primary lateral load resisting system for specified performance objectives under different levels of earthquakes includes:

  • Developing the performance-based evaluation criteria, including the description of the building and its structural system, codes, standards and references, loading criteria, materials, modeling, and the prescribed analysis and design procedures.
  • Creating the finite element models of the building with varying complexity and refinement suitable to determine the response under gravity and seismic loads.
  • Carrying out different types of analyses to evaluate the performance: using linear-static, and nonlinear response history analyses. The analyses are conducted using seismic input information and ground motion records provided by the main structural engineer/client.
  • Carrying out detailed studies of the response and performance of primary structural members and systems in the building with the objective to improve their performance as well as cost effectiveness.
  • Providing recommendations based on the performance-based evaluation results. The recommendations assists the structural designer to modify/update the design.
