11-13 June, 2013, London, United Kingdom

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) organized its 2013 conference, a premier global event for professionals involved in the development of tall buildings, in mid June 2013 in London, United Kingdom. The conference was held at The Brewery, London highlighting the theme “Height and Heritage: The Unique Challenges of Building Tall in Historic Cities”. Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Consulting had the opportunity to attend the conference.

The CTBUH is an international not-for-profit organization supported by architecture, engineering, planning, development, and construction professionals, and is the world’s leading body in the field of tall buildings and the recognized source of information on tall buildings internationally.

The 2013 Conference which gathered the world’s leading tall building owners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, planners, policy-makers, and others focused on answering the pressing question: is Europe correct in taking its cities skywards and, if so, what do building designers, builders and operators need to do to create their own brand of skyscrapers, appropriate to both the context and the age?

The conference featured plenary sessions, presentations, and panel discussions by many of Europe’s leading developers, architects, and engineers as well as an exhibition. Three major social networking events were held in conjunction with the Congress and the third day of the conference featured technical tours of prominent tall buildings such as the Leadenhall Building, Broadgate Tower, Centre Point, Willis Building, St. Paul’s Cathedral and others.

CTBUH events offered a wide variety of potential benefits and opportunities to attendees including a platform to address the issues of tall building design in historic cities, share information and create a dialogue for advancing future projects.
