As part of the Road Development Authority (RDA)-Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) exchange program, nine engineers from Sri Lanka visited the Mass Transit System, Red Line Project led by Engr. Keerati Thunthasawatana, Deputy Director of ACECOMS at AIT Solutions.

AIT Solutions (AITS) provided the engineers the opportunity to have an integrated and multi-facetted experience, combining seminars, site-visits, and real-time projects exposure during their visit to Thailand to maximize their learning.

During the visit, the engineers took part in a series of capacity-building activities including the Technical Seminar on Road Infrastructure for ASEAN Integration, and learned about the transport and infrastructure challenges faced and techniques used by their ASEAN counterparts. In addition, AITS experts held an interactive training session on design check, model analysis, and post processing followed by a thorough Q&A session.

This was proceeded by another site-visit in coordination with the Bureau of Bridges, Ministry of Transport (Thailand) to the Industrial Ring Road Project, the engineers received presentations outlining the history of the Bhumibol I & II Bridges, and had the opportunity to visit the museum and inspect the bridges.

The meeting session and the site visits were part of the many exchanges between AITS and RDA to support the latter’s endeavors to strengthen the capacity of RDA for bridge designs, supported by Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Sri Lanka. Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Solutions is a regular participant and speaker at the workshops organized under the ADB’s Southern Road Connectivity project program and has spoken on relevant topics, in his last visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka in March 2016 he presented on current trends in modelling and analysis of bridges.
