Computers and Structures, Inc (CSI), an authority in the development of software tools for structural and earthquake engineering, in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Asian Center for Engineering Computations and Software (ACECOMS), and AIT Consulting (AITC), is inviting all interested engineers, architects, executives, and managers in building and public infrastructure industry to attend what is set to be the biggest and highly-informative Performance-based Design (PBD) seminar in this region. The seminar, carrying the theme, “Theory and Practice of Performance-based Design: The Future of Earthquake Engineering,” will be held at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, Thailand on 5 June 2014.

Previously held in San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles, this seminar is now being organized in Bangkok for the benefit of the construction industry and engineering professionals in this region.

Keynote speaker Ashraf Habibullah, President and CEO of CSI, will present the theory and practical application of nonlinear analysis and PBD in terms and analogies that are very familiar to the practicing structural engineer.

The seminar will focus on PBD, which is a major shift from traditional structural design concepts and represents the future of earthquake engineering. The procedure provides a method for determining acceptable levels of earthquake damage. Methods are based on the recognition that yielding does not constitute failure and that pre-planned yielding of certain members of a structure during an earthquake can actually help to save the rest of the structure. This seminar will focus on the application of PBD to tall buildings and other structures.

Attendees will leave the seminar empowered with a clear understanding of PBD and related technologies.
