INTRODUCTION

Bridges are an important part of the transportation infrastructure. They are often perceived as a symbol of progress, development, and sometimes serve as iconic landmarks of cities and even cultures. The Golden Gate bridge, London bridge, Sydney Harbor bridge, Brooklyn bridge, and Rama 9 bridge are just some of the examples.

The bridge life cycle involves the selection of bridges, systems modeling and design, construction, and post construction management and monitoring.

Bridge Management System or BMS focuses on managing bridges throughout design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the bridges. Bridges are subject to various physical processes that result in their deterioration over time. BMS is important as it helps agencies and engineers to meet their objectives, such as cost-effective bridge design, building inventories and inspection databases, planning for maintenance, optimizing the allocation of financial resources, and increasing the safety of bridge users.

The rapid development of the bridge engineering and related disciplines necessitates the awareness and understanding of the various bridge types,their modeling analysis, design and construction, in line with current trends and state-of-the-art.

This three-day event is being organized by Smart Infrastructure Asset Management Australia (SIAMA) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to tackle several issues related to bridge engineering.

The seminar will present several topics focusing on effective bridge management systems, bridge monitoring, bridge design and construction from renowned experts in the field of bridge engineering.
