The Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, engaged Dr. Sangam Shrestha, Associate Professor, Water Engineering and Management, Asian Institute of Technology through AIT Consulting to conduct the Training on Irrigation Feasibility and Design.

The Government of Afghanistan is currently implementing the Irrigation Restoration and Development Project (IRDP) under the irrigation and water sector. This project supports activities that are designed to improve livelihood opportunities in the rural areas through rehabilitated irrigation systems and improved management of national water resources.

The primary objective of the project, financed by International Development Association, is to equip 30 professionals from MEW on irrigation feasibility and design. The course consists of Feasibility Studies for Irrigation Projects, Design of Irrigation and Drainage Systems and Structures, and Design of Diversion Works. The trainings besides the classroom lectures involves hands-on experiences as well as exposure visits to sites related to the training program.
